Five RCHS students will be traveling to Oklahoma City Friday, April 27 to compete in the National Land and Range Judging contest. The students are members of a local 4-H team that has been practicing and raising money all year. The team includes Juniors Chad Stricklin and Tonya Raines. The senior members are Heather McDonald and Seth Kelley and rounding out the team is sophomore Jason Shamblin. The team had won at the state level and will be representing West Virginia along with RCHS. The actual contest will take place next Thursday. Until then, students will be sight seeing and practicing their land judging skills. Participants will analyze the land based upon certain qualities of the soil. The students themselves will be judged on their conclusion of the soil’s content. Aside from winning, participant Heather McDonald hopes to show them what Roane County is made of. |
